The keel laying of Costa Fascinosa of Costa Crociere took place at the Marghera shipyard of Fincantieri last Friday.
Costa Fascinosa is sister ship of the 114,500 gross ton Costa Favolosa , which was launched by floating out in Marghera on 6 August and which is set to make her debut in July 2011.
“The construction of each new building involves the labor of around 3,000 people, comprising both Fincantieri’s own employees and those of about 500 contracted suppliers, most of which are Italian firms,” Fincantieri said in a statement. Costa Cruises’ fleet expansion program began in 2000 and provides for the entry into service by 2012 of 13 ships, 9 of which built in Italy by Fincantieri. Three of the new liners were actually delivered in less than 12 months, between spring 2009 and the start of this year, while the Costa Favolosa will be joining the fleet in summer 2011. Finally, in 2012 with the arrival of the Costa Fascinosa, the Costa Cruises fleet will be 16-strong.
