Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering , the second largest shipbuilder in South Korea, has won an order worth $262 million order for a large ropax ferry from Compagnie Tunisienne de Navigation (COTUNAV), the state owned Tunisian shipping company, media reports say. The 51,000 gross ton ship, which will be delivered in 2012, will be able to carry 3,200 passengers and 1,060 cars. It will be powered by a diesel electric power plant report of IHS Fairplay Newbuilding News says. Diesel electric propulsion is commonly in use in cruise liners, but it has not been used to power major ferries so far. |
