![]() Compagnie du Ponant, the French boutique cruise brand, has introduced the first of its two 260-passenger newbuildings from Fincantieri. Called Le Boreal, the company calls the newcomer the fourth yacht in its fleet and notes that it combines luxury, intimacy and well being. The ship has 132 cabins, some of which can accommodate three persons and some of which are inter connecting to allow families to book adjacent cabins. Nearly all of them have private balconies. The ship also features a boutique, two restaurants that include a specialty gourmet one, plus a gym and spa. Compagnie du Ponant has teamed up with a number of well known brands to enhance the experience on board: these include Nespresso coffee, Palais de The tea and Swarowski lighting. Protecting the environment has been high on the agenda of the design as Le Boreal and L'Austral, its yet to be completed sister vessel, are fitted with a dynamic positioning system that eliminates the need to use anchors. Also, they use marine diesel oil that is more environmentally friendly than the heavy oil usually used by ships. The exterior design of the rakish looking vessels is the work of Stirling Design International in Nantes, while the interior that Ponant describes as chic and casual, is by Jean-Philppe Nuel. |
