Specialist naval design and architecture firm Oliver Design has been commissioned to design the interior decoration on board the Villa de Teror, Trasmediterranea's new state-of the-art 1500-passenger ferry. The Spanish firm designed a variety of areas on two decks, totalling around 3,500 square metres (380,000 square feet).

Oliver Design faced tough competition from leading Spanish and international firms. The work consisted of complete design of the interior decoration for the vessel, as well as an external area including a swimming pool. Specialist staff from Oliver Design spent five months working on this complex project, right through from the concept design stage to creation of the component drawings, selection of materials and high- quality rendering.

The design features an attractive modern look; every effort has been made to give each interior area its own distinct character, while at the same time creating a warm and inviting environment for passengers. VIP areas and cabins are fitted out in a combination of wood surfaces and stainless-steel accessories. The lighting is based on embedded LED fittings and combines indirect light and decorative lamps.

The spaces created by Oliver Design include the reception and customs area, shops, self-service food-lounge, a bar and caféwith an indoor section and an outdoor zone complete with swimming pool and two glazed side galleries leading to the VIP zone, seating areas, cabins and creche. Rest areas have been deliberately divided up into smaller lounges to create more intimate spaces, some with spectacular panoramic views.

The Villa de Teror takes its name from a town on Gran Canaria. It was built at the Factorías Vulcano shipyard in Pontevedra. The vessel is 139 metres long and can accommodate 1,500 passengers and 450 vehicles (600 lane metres of cargo). It is fitted with all the most modern technological advances and has been built to the latest environmental and energy-efficiency specifications governing emission reduction and water treatment. The Villa de Teror is due to come into operation shortly, connecting the Spanish town of Motril and the Moroccan cities of Nador and Al Hoceima.
