Carnival Corp & plc, the world's largest cruise shipping group, is unlikely to place newbuilding orders before the end of the year as it will focus on deliveries in 2014, a senior official at the company said.
"We'll do something for 14 when we feel its appropriate to do it. We have one ship for 14, the Princess ship. I would say we don't expect to do anything between now and the end of the year, but who knows," Micky Arison Chairman and CEO of the Anglo-American company said in a conference call.
"We dont make newbuilding decisions based on sales at shipyards. It's not like used cars. It's long-term, strategic decisions. As of right now, nothing's hot; right now we're probably done for 13. We're always discussing and looking at the future, but there's nothing imminent despite what is a very aggressive pricing situation, other than the AIDA deal we just did," Arison answered a question of an industry analyst regarding the group's plans regarding newbuildings.
