Freedom through the ice
With the assistance of two icebreakers and three tugboats, Freedom of the Seas departed from Aker Finnyards Turku shipyard, albeit under tow, at the end of April. Due to the unseasonably late spring, the Gulf of Finland was still covered in ice, which is why the world’s largest cruise ship, which is not ice strengthened, required such assistance. Freedom of the Seas will begin 7-night Western Caribbean sailings from Miami in early June. It will be followed by two sister ships, the first of which, Liberty of the Seas, is to be introduced next spring.
